Musical Notes at 90: Donald Hall & E.E. Cummings Poems, Set to Music - A Fundraiser to Benefit the Grolier Poetry Book Shop

The Grolier Poetry Book Shop, the oldest poetry book shop in the United States, is celebrating its 90th year. As part of our celebration, we are pleased to present a fundraiser featuring the work of two distinguished poets with deep ties to the Grolier: Donald Hall and E.E. Cummings. This event will take place at OBERON on Tuesday, November 14, at 8 p.m. The music program will feature settings by Boston composers of poems from E. E. Cummings and Donald Hall, two important poets with deep ties to the Grolier. The program will begin with a performance of 4 settings of E. E. Cummings by 4 different WordSong composers [Howard Frazin, Benjamin Pesetsky, Tom Schnauber, and Adam Simon] performed by Krista River, mezzo soprano, Rafael Popper Keizer, cello, and Robert Schulz, marimba. This will be followed by the premiere of a new song cycle, Letting Go, by Howard Frazin that is a setting of 6 Donald Hall poems [The Wish, The Child, Moon Shot, Villanelle, By the Exeter River, and White Apples] performed by Keith Phares, baritone, and Linda Osborn, piano. Letting Go is an early 90th birthday present for Mr. Hall and the presentation will include a video introduction by Donald Hall himself.
